Recognizing the inefficiencies and redundancies in former search processes, the economic development department of Kansas City, MO-based utility KCP&L created the LocationOne Information System initially as an in-house tool., LocationOne System staff responded with an innovative approach to reform the economic development process in their five-state service area. Communities embraced LocationOne Information System immediately. The LocationOne staff quickly realized that there was a need for this tool outside of the Aquila market area and began offering it to other states and communities. As the system evolved, seemingly disparate users became integral partners in collecting and sharing information in ways they never had in the past.
